To Ease Pain and Renew Hope

(Author Unknown)

This spell can be performed to ease the pain of a broken relationship, divorce, death of a loved one or other painful circumstance and to build and renew a sense of hope in the future. The ingredients you will need are:

One Black Candle
3 Pieces of Amethyst
Vetivert Oil
One White Candle
3 Pieces of Rose Quartz
Lotus Oil

At Sunset on the night of the Full Moon, take the Black Candle and inscribe with a short description of your problem, i.e. divorce, break-up, death, etc. Annoint the Candle with Vetivert oil and charge it. Set the candle in a holder on your altar. Take the three pieces of amethyst and hold in your hand. Visualize your pain and pour it into the stones. Place the stones in a circle around the base of the candle holder and light the candle. Visualize the pain leaving you. Allow the candle to burn down one third of the way and then extinguish. Take one of the pieces of amethyst outside. Hold it into your hand and again see and feel your pain transferring to the stone. Then take the stone and throw it from you with all your might. Never take this stone up again. Repeat this spell for the next two nights, until the candle has completely burned down, and the amethyst stones are gone. Take any remaining wax from the candle and bury off of your property.

At Sunrise on the morning of the New Moon, take the White Candle and inscribe with the word "hope". Annoint the candle with Lotus oil and charge it. Set the candle in a holder on your altar. Take the three pieces of rose quartz and hold in your hand. Visualize a positive future for yourself. See yourself living, laughing, and enjoying life. Place the stones in a circle around the base of the candle holder and light the candle. Visualize and feel a strong sense of hope and expectancy coming to you. Allow the candle to burn down one third of the way and then extinguish. Repeat this spell for the next two nights, until the candle has completely burned down. Take the rose quartz pieces and place one in your purse, pocket, medicine bag, or amulet to be carried with you. Place another by a window sill in a sunny room. Take the last piece and bury it by a tree in your yard as an offering. If you don't have a yard, you may bury it in a flower pot or plant in your home or place outside the entrance of your home.

Be patient...it takes time for pain to come to an end, but this spell will set you well on your way.

To Rid a Room of Evil

(Author Unknown)

Light a cinnamon incense stick in the center of the room and walk to the north east corner or wall. Say:

"Earth and air, purify to good, blow away evil."

Draw a pentagram of smoke and use the incense stick to stab through the center. Walk to the southeast corner of the room and say:

"Air and fire, blow away evil, burn away pain."

Repeat the pentagram and stab the center, then walk to the southwest part of the room. Say:

"Fire and water, burn away pain, wash away fear."

Repeat pentagram and stab. Walk to the northwest part of the room and say:

"Water and earth, wash away fear,
bury all negativity, purify to good."

Repeat pentagram and stab. Walk to the center of the room. Point incense stick to the sky and say:

"As Above..."

Now drop an ash from the incense and say:

"So Below"

It is done.

A Ritual to Heal the Oceans

(Excerpts from Scott Cunningham's Earth, Air, Fire & Water)

This is a rite for the oceans of the world.  Despite modern knowledge concerning the fragility of our oceans, pollution continues.  If you have an opportunity to do so, go to the beach at least once just to perform this ritual.  If not, perform this rite at home.  This isn't a time for private, personal spells.  This is a time of giving to the oceans: of lending them the strength to survive.

Walk into the water.  Contact the element.  Get wet (you needn't swim).  Then sit on the sand.

Flow from one visualisation to the next.  Maintain each for as long as you can before continuing on.

*Visualise a sparkling clean ocean, free of pollution. The moon shines onto it, scattering silver light upon it's vast expanse.  Waves break as they approach you, each strong and pure and clean.  The foam glows with blue-green light.

*Visualise the swells that create waves, formed in distant places.  Feel their power, visualise them as being strong and pure and clean.

*Visualise a beach on a hot summer day.  See people taking their trash with them.  Visualise the oceans as being strong and pure and clean.

*Visualise a harbour bustling with ships.  See their owners and all who sail on the sea refusing to pollute the water.  Visualise the oceans as being strong and pure and clean.

*Visualise a city by the ocean.  See its factories refusing to discharge toxics into the water.  Visualise the oceans as being strong and pure and clean.

*Visualise our planet as seen from space.  See its inhabitants as ocean-loving creatures, surrounded by water.  Visualise its oceans as being strong and pure and clean.

*Visualise a sparkling clean ocean, free of pollution.  The sun shines onto it, brightening its vast expanse.  Waves break as they approach, each strong and pure and clean.  The foam whitely glistens.  Fish swim beneath its surface through clear water.  Crabs scatter on surf-splashed rocks.  Coral polyps build reefs.  Dolphins and seals dance through the waves.  Whales echo their calls.  Restless sharks maneouvre through the depths.  Seaweed waves in shadowy spendour .... and throughout the world, we finally realise that the ocean is our mother, and that we'll take care of her.

Following the visualisation, touch the water once again.

Spell to Protect and Heal our Planet

(Excerpts from Scott Cunningham's Earth, Air, Fire & Water)

Correspeondences Colours: Brown and green Candles are not recommended).

Herbs: Collect a few leaves or flowers from the wild plants that grow in your area. Collect with love.

Stones: Simple rocks that you find on the ground or in riverbeds. Mined stones of all kinds (including quartz crystals) are not recommended.

Ritual Forms: visualization, charging stones and placing in ground, charging seedlings and planting them.

Symbol: Solar cross in a circle.

Other Tools: Color photo of the Earth from space.

This rite is designed to give energy back to the Earth. Light no candles. Burn no incense. Go to the wilds to perform this spell, a place far from the haunts of humans. If this is impossible, work this rite in your place of magick. There, have a potted plant or four plain stones.

(Again, don't use mined quartz.)

Sit on the ground. Place your hands onto the dirt beneath you (or onto the plant or stones, if inside). Visualize the Earth from space as a bluish-white sphere of positive, whole, healed energy. Experience it as a living organism.

When you are ready, say these or similar words:

Pure are the caves and plains;

Pure are the sod and hills;

Pure are the winds and skies;

Pure are the lakes and rills;

Pure are the clouds and rains;

Pure are the woods and trees;

Pure are the valleys deep;

Pure are the bays and seas.”

Renew your visualization, then begin again:

“Pure are the birds that fly;

Pure are the hounds and bats;

Pure are the fish and whales;

Pure are the hares and cats;

Pure are the owls and snakes;

Pure are the stags and deer;

Pure are the lizards green;

Pure are all creatures here.”

Once again, renew your visualization. Feel the Earth. Block all thoughts of ravages that our species has subjected to our planet. See the Earth as a healed, whole being. Then say these or whatever words come to mind:

As I receive your energy, now receive mine.”

Pour your personal power out through your palms and into the Earth (or the stones or plant). Gently send it spiralling down into our planet, lending it strength to survive. Willingly give of yourself for a few moments while visualizing that shining blue planet hanging in space.

After a few moments, end the ritual by lifting your hands and standing. (If performing this rite indoors, place the stones or the potted plant onto the ground outside to allow the Earth to absorb the energy.)

It is done.

Healing the Rainforests

(Author unknown)

Cast a circle

Invoke elements by calling upon them in protective aspects (for example, you might invoke Watchfires or Beacons in the South).

Chant the names of the Earth Goddess, beginning with your personal favorites, then naming as many as you can think of.

Take a piece of green string. Begin to tie knots in it, while chanting:

"Tying the Cord, Renewing the Earth;
We are Her Children, bringing Rebirth".

(The knots may be simple or elaborate, but leave enough string to tie together at the end.) As you chant, see the world as a network of connected systems. Breathe the air that comes from the jungles of South America. Feel the living fire of an ocelot's power. Taste the rain on the leaves at the tops of the trees. Feel the delicate structure of the soil at the forest floor.)

Tie the cord together in a loop; hold it up, strung around your two hands, and begin chanting:

"We are the Flow and we are the Ebb;
We are the Weavers, we are the Web."

As you chant, see yourself standing guard over the borders of the rainforest. See yourself with others, protecting rainforest as you would protect yourself, because that's what you're doing.

Bury the cord in a container of earth. Earth the power; thank the Deities and elements; open the circle. Later bury the cord in the forest if possible.

(If circumstances make the above impossible):

Sit quietly and see: the network of ecosystems that make up the world; the rainforests thriving; plants and animals breeding; the Earth, green and filled with life; yourself, standing guard. Breathe, and know that the air comes from the sea and the jungles of Brazil. Drink and know that the water has been around the world, and circulates through you as it does through the air, land, and sea. Stand up and stretch; the strength of your body is the Earth's strength.

    Winter Spell against World Hunger

(from Dorothy Morrison's Everyday Magic)

waxed paper large spoon
1 large jar peanut butter knife
1 small bag wild birdseed yarn needle
large microwave- thin green ribbon
proof bowl or yarn

Cover the work area with waxed paper.  Empty the peanut butter into the bowl. Put the bowl into the microwave oven for one minute, checking and stirring the peanut butter every twenty seconds.  Remove it from the microwave and stir in the birdseed, adding it a little at a time.  Continue adding birdseed until stirring becomes difficult.

Turn out the 'dough' onto the waxed paper, and shape it into a rectangle approximately a half inch thick.  Wrap the dough in waxed paper and place in the freezer for one hour.

After an hour, the dough will have 'set' well enough to cut easily.  (If not, return it to the freezer and check it every fifteen to twenty minutes.)  Cut the dough into 2-inch squares.

Thread the needle with the yarn or ribbon.  Draw the needle though the centre top of a square, then cut the ribbon, leaving about 8 inches of length.  Continue the process until each square has a ribbon through it.  Return the squares to the freezer and leave them for 24 hours.

The next day, take the squares outside and tie them to tree branches for the birds to eat.  When the last one is tied, open your arms to the sky and chant to the Sun and Sky:

I feed the birds a festive meal.

I nourish them with foodstuffs real.

And as they find this pleasant feast

So will my human siblings eat.

Remove the hunger from all life

So that Your human children thrive.

Give them plenty - fill them up

With nourishing food on which to sup.

Kill starvation, it must die

This I will - by Sun and Sky!
