~Bathroom~

Your bathroom, like the kitchen, should be kept clean because it is a breeding ground for germs.  This isn't very difficult to manager if you do a little gentle cleaning on a regular basis.

Try using a natural acid such as vinegar instead of commercial cleaners and bleaches when cleaning the bathroom.  It will do as good a job but won't pollute the water when washed away.

  • Bath and basin:  Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water.  Apply with a soft cloth, then wipe off with a moist cloth and rinse.  Leave mixture on longer for stubborn stains.

  • Mould:  Wipe vinegar onto affected surfaces.  :Leave overnight and scrubb off the next morning.

  • Tiles:  Use a paste of bicarbonate of soda or a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water.  If you apply a wax polish to your tiles they will be easier to wipe down.

  • Toilet:  To clean bowl, leave vinegar to soak for about 10 minutes.  Limescale can then be easily scrubbed off.  Flush toilets were specifically designed for hygeine without chemicals.

  • Chemical toilet cleaners:  Most toilet cleaners are poisonous so store out of reach of children and make sure lids are childproof, just in case.  Bleach isn't a cleaning agent, it just bleaches surfaces and materials white.  Eventually, it damages chrome, laminates and other plastic materials as well as the environment.  Use vinegar and lemon juice instead.  Don't mix your chemical cleaners as they can combine to form explosive or toxic gases.
